Best Tens Treatment
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is considered to be a device that sends small electrical currents to targeted body parts. These currents help in relieving the pain. TENS therapy helps to subdue hyperalgesia, which is known to be a high sensitivity to pain.
Electrode pads are placed over some nerves on the body to conduct the currents from the unit to the nerves. The frequency of the currents coming from a TENS unit can be controlled by either turning it up or down, ranging from 10 Hz to 50 Hz. Most often, a TENS unit may last less than 15 minutes and can be administered as often as you need.
TENS is very helpful in reducing pain and muscle spasms caused by various health conditions. The benefit of TENS units is that it is small, portable, and relatively discrete and can be carried easily in your pocket or you can even clip it onto a belt to ensure that you have immediate access to pain relief throughout the day.
Does my skin need any special care when I use TENS?
Wash the area of skin where the electrodes go at least once a day with soap and water thoroughly. Using body lotions or creams where the electrodes go will prevent them from sticking to your skin. They will also shorten the life of the electrodes.
Will TENS cure my pain?
TENS is not a "cure all". Almost 80% of the people are helped by TENS and experience a reduction in pain rather than a cure.
